He will be late again

On a sunday afternoon we went for a walk in the mall and enjoyed some windowshopping. I haven’t seen her for a while, so we talk. It’s a good conversation. She tells me about her life on campus and about her new roommate. Apparently she is from France and very nice. They get along pretty well. Hang out in the kitchen, watch movies together, have some drinks and exchange thoughts. That’s the kind of life she always wanted. It’s a stressless way of walking her path through life.
As we walk, she swings her handbag back and forth, her eyes are never focused, always looking out for something interesting. Now and then she stops in front of the stores and looks at the latest collections of bags. I don’t have interest in them. The reflection of her smile on the window is what I see. Two glimpses of happiness.

Then her phone rings. She picks up and suddenly loses her smile. “I’m sorry, I have to take this, could you please wait for a moment?” She steps outside and sits down. I let her be and take some steps away to see what’s going on on the streets. After a couple of minutes she returns. “He will be late again.”, she sighs.

- “You want to have dinner tonight?”…

The real deal

A simple composition exercise around Yokohama Bay Quarter. That day we went to the Kirin brewery. We got very lucky with the weather. Eventhough it doesn’t show in the photo, we had awesome sunlight. Around the area where she was sitting there were other people right next to her, so I had to wait for a moment for them to leave. Since we were waiting for some friends to arrive, so I had some time. I took one in portrait and one in landscape. This one I feel suits the situation better. Also less saturation and a light vignette for the final touch.
